What counts as Construction and trades

Statistics have no category called “trades”. They classify businesses by activity: construction is section F of the SK NACE classification, with three divisions for construction of buildings, civil engineering and specialised construction activities. Whether an activity is a licensed craft is decided by the Trade Licensing Act instead, and the two classifications only partly overlap.

Hairdressers, bakers and car repair shops hold trade licences but are not construction. People looking for “tradespeople” usually mean the construction and finishing trades, and that is what this industry covers. Car repair shops are under Car dealers and repair shops.

The trade licensing register: public, but without contacts

Most tradespeople work as sole traders. Their identity and licensed activities are in public registers, but phone numbers and email addresses only where the business publishes them itself.

Trade licensing register
Kept by the district offices under Act No. 455/1991 Coll. on trade licensing and publicly accessible at zrsr.sk. It lists licensed activities and business premises, not contact details.
Craft trades
Annex 1 of the Trade Licensing Act lists the craft trades that require proof of professional competence. The classification of individual activities has changed with amendments; check the current version of the act.
Authorised civil engineers
The Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers keeps the list of authorised civil engineers under Act No. 138/1992 Coll. and publishes it at sksi.sk. Designers and site managers fit better under architecture and engineering.

  • name and qualification of the responsible representative

  • number of employees and turnover
  • guild and association memberships
  • mobile numbers of individual fitters

Trade and service area: two pitfalls when selecting

In statistics a business has one main activity. A heating installer who also refits bathrooms and installs solar panels is classified under 43.22, not also under tiling or electrical installation. Selecting by trade therefore gives you businesses with that main activity, not every business offering the service.

The region follows the registered address. A roofer from Senec works in Bratislava and belongs to the Bratislava Region only because the Senec district is part of it; a business from Dunajská Streda is already in the Trnava Region. For sales territories along a regional border, request the neighbouring districts as well.

Data about sole traders is personal data. Anyone using it for marketing must comply with the duty to inform under Art. 14 GDPR and the right to object.

Example request

We sell heat pumps through installers and are looking for businesses with main activity 43.22 in the Nitra and Trnava regions that publish a phone number. Please exclude developers and design offices. How many records is that, and how recent are the contacts?

Questions

Construction and trades: frequently asked questions

Selecting by SK NACE class (for example 43.21 or 43.91) and by region or district is standard. It covers businesses with that main activity; where the classification is missing or unclear, we say so before the quotation.

No. The trade licensing register shows the name, address, licensed activities and premises. It contains no phone numbers or email addresses; those come from company websites, directories and other sources, which we state for every contact.

You may call published business numbers unless the number is on the do-not-call list kept by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (§ 116(8) of Act No. 452/2021 Coll.). Details: B2B outreach and § 116.
