In brief
- The Register of Legal Entities (RPO) brings together data from all source registers and is also available free of charge as open data.
- The commercial register and the trade licensing register add statutory bodies, business objects and premises.
- The register of financial statements shows company turnover.
- Phone numbers and email addresses are not in any of the registers. Companies publish them themselves.
Slovakia has several public business registers, and most of them are free to use. Each serves a different purpose, though, and none of them is a contact list. Here is an overview of what you will find where.
Register of Legal Entities, Entrepreneurs and Public Authorities
The RPO is a public administration information system that takes over data from the source registers (commercial, trade licensing, civic associations and others) and adds identifiers. It is governed by Act No. 272/2015 Coll.; under § 2(1), in the version in force from 17 August 2026, the register is administered by the Ministry of the Interior. Under § 7(2) it is publicly accessible, and the data made available is free of charge and for information purposes.
The RPO contains the IČO, business name and its history, registered address, legal form, main SK NACE activity code, statutory bodies and dates of incorporation and dissolution. The register’s open data is available as bulk files under the CC BY 4.0 licence. According to our processing of the full export of 3 October 2026, it contained 1,040,354 active entries, of which 480,623 came from the trade licensing register, 398,065 from the commercial register and 67,529 were civic associations.
Commercial register
The commercial register is kept by the district courts under Act No. 530/2003 Coll. on the commercial register and extracts are public at orsr.sk. Companies, cooperatives and other entities are registered there. An extract shows the business objects, statutory body, shareholders and share capital. The business objects are often broad and say little about what the company actually does.
Trade licensing register
The trade licensing register is kept by the district offices under Act No. 455/1991 Coll. on trade licensing; the public part is at zrsr.sk. It shows the name or business name, place of business, licensed activities and premises. Most sole traders are individuals, and their data is personal data.
Register of financial statements
The register set up under § 23 of Act No. 431/2002 Coll. on accounting publishes financial statements at registeruz.sk. For companies you can find turnover, profit or loss and often the size category. Sole traders who keep simple tax records do not file statements.
Financial Administration lists
The Slovak Financial Administration publishes lists of taxpayers, VAT payers and a tax reliability index. These are the source of tax and VAT IDs. Mind the licences: check for each list under what terms you may reuse it.
Register of public sector partners
Companies receiving public money above the statutory thresholds are entered, together with their beneficial owners, in the register under Act No. 315/2016 Coll.. The record of beneficial owners in the RPO itself is not public, except for the data listed in § 7a(11) of Act No. 272/2015 Coll.
What you will not find in the registers
- Phone and email. The registers contain no contact details. Companies publish them on their websites, in directories and on chamber lists.
- Actual activity. The SK NACE code and the business objects are register data; what a company really does is shown by its website.
- Chain outlets. The registers know the registered office, not every shop or branch.
That is why the contacts in our database come from sources other than the identity data, and we state for each one where it was published. Details are on the data sources and methodology page; how to use activity codes for selection is explained in SK NACE industry codes.
