What counts as Municipalities and public institutions

This industry corresponds to division 84 of the SK NACE classification (public administration and defence). Business statistics do not cover public administration, so the industry card shows the number of municipalities and towns from the list of local administrative units.

Municipalities also set up their own organisations: schools, technical services, cultural centres. These have their own IČO and are classified by activity, for example under Education.

Local governments publish their contacts by law

Municipalities and regions are obliged bodies under the Freedom of Information Act. Their office contacts are therefore public and usually easy to find.

Municipalities and towns
The position of municipalities is governed by Act No. 369/1990 Coll. on municipalities. Bratislava and Košice are divided into city districts with their own offices.
Self-governing regions
The eight self-governing regions are governed by Act No. 302/2001 Coll. on self-governing higher territorial units.
Information published by law
Under § 5 of Act No. 211/2000 Coll. on free access to information, an obliged body publishes, among other things, where, when and how information can be obtained. Office contacts are therefore on their websites.

Not in the export

  • names and personal contacts of mayors

  • organisations set up by the municipality (other industries)

Mayor, office or registry?

For municipalities we supply the office contacts (registry, secretariat), not private contacts of mayors. Small municipalities often have one email address and one phone number for everything.

The public sector buys through public procurement. An office contact is useful for information and preparation, but the purchase itself follows procurement law.

Example request

We supply playground equipment and are looking for municipalities with up to 5,000 inhabitants in the Banská Bystrica and Žilina regions with a published email address. How many records can you supply, and how do you filter by population?
