What counts as IT and software

This industry consists of divisions 62 (computer programming, consultancy and related activities) and 63 (information service activities). Publishing, broadcasting and telecommunications are in other divisions of section J and are not included.

A large share of entities in IT are sole traders working for one or a few clients. If you are looking for IT companies with staff, say so in your request and we will limit the selection to companies.

No chamber, but public data

IT is not a regulated profession. What is public are mainly register data and what companies publish themselves.

Register of Legal Entities
The main SK NACE activity, legal form and address are recorded for every entity. Since 2026 the RPO uses codes from the SK NACE Rev. 2.1 revision, in which IT activities sit in new divisions.
Register of financial statements
For companies it shows turnover and profit or loss, which helps to tell a one-person limited company from a larger firm.
Company websites
IT companies have a website more often than businesses in other industries. The identification details on the website (business name and IČO) are proof that a contact belongs to that company.

Sole trader or software company?

Among entities with code 62.01 there are many freelance programmers who do not offer services on the open market. For selling services to companies it therefore helps to require a website or to limit the selection to legal entities.

Hosting and data centres (63.11) are a smaller but technically distinct group with specific needs (power, cooling, connectivity).
